I've been flying on commercial airlines since I was a little kid. I've flown countless times since then, but I never really stop marveling at the fact that we hurl across the sky in little aluminum tubes at 30,000 feet. Still very cool.
Last week I travelled to Silicon Valley on business. I stayed at a new hotel, the Cypress Hotel in Cupertino. It was simply the nicest hotel I have stayed at in some time. It's brand new, which helps I'm sure, but the details were right: comfy bed, nice bathroom, a shower head high enough to not hit my head(!), and a large size TV.
My favorite thing was the high speed internet access included in the price of the room. Right there on the desk was an ethernet cable that I could plug right into my PowerBook. It used regular DHCP, so I didn't have to reconfigure anything. I was checking mail and on the web in seconds.
By including this in the cost of the room, I didn't have to worry about daily charges or if Apple would accept it as a valid expense (I'm sure they could, but...). It was a fast link - dslreports.com reported download speeds over 1 mbps - and I didn't run into any problems at all. Some day, all hotels will have this kind of service.
